TOUR FT. CLINCH STATE PARK
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 4 @ 9:30 A.M.
The MNC will be touring the historic Ft. Clinch State Park on Thursday November 4. A row of cannons pointing across the St. Mary’s River into Georgia are silent testimony to the strategic importance of Fort Clinch during the Civil War. Visitors will explore the fort’s many rooms, galleries and grounds, and learn about the life of a Union soldier through a ranger guided tour.
The fort construction by Union soldiers began in 1847 as part of a system of fortifications designed to protect the coastline of the United States. The fort and surrounding 1,100 acres were eventually bought by the State of Florida to preserve it and provide outdoor activities. These include two campgrounds, numerous biking and walking nature trails, beach access, and the rare but possible sighting of a nuclear submarine from Kings Bay Terminal.
Tour goers will meet at the northeast area of the Atlantic Rec Center parking lot at 2500 Atlantic Ave for a prompt 9:30 A.M. carpool departure to the Park entrance on the 4th.
Cost for the tour and entrance to the park will be $7.00 which can be paid in advance with your tour registration to be noted below. Anyone with an annual pass for Florida State Parks should bring it along since it will reduce the park entrance fee for that car.
Come join us for this fun and informative tour. The MNC does request that tour goers be fully vaccinated for Covid-19.
