Understanding, treating drug overdose
MNC May luncheon program; Club to elect officers
and induct members into Circle of Honor
Amy Pipkin
Amy Pipkin, a leader of Nassau County opioid overdose response programs, is the guest speaker at the Men’s Newcomers Club’s luncheon, Thursday, May 19, at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club. Ms. Pipkin is prevention supervisor at Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare and director of community services for Nassau Alcohol Crime Drug Abatement Coalition (NACDAC).
The Club will also hold elections for its two officers; nominees are Bruce Gruber for president and Jim Ramsey for vice president. Nominations can be made from the membership at the luncheon meeting.
Starting Point Behavioral Healthcare is a private, not-for-profit agency providing psychiatric treatment, mental health counseling and substance use disorder treatment.
It opened in 1992 as Nassau County Mental Health Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council, Inc.
NACDAC works to prevent substance use among youth and young adults in our community.
A native Fernandinian, Ms. Pipkin is a graduate of Fernandina Beach High School and holds bachelor's degrees in sociology and criminology. She has been with Starting Point for 12 years.
She will discuss understanding drug overdose and the Narcan opioid overdose treatment training program. Narcan is a nasal spray used in overdose situations.
Bruce Gruber has been a member of the MNC board for the past year. Jim Ramsey had been elected vice president two years ago, but had to step aside due to health reasons.
There will be a social half-hour beginning at 11:30 a.m. At noon there will be the Club's Annual Meeting and induction into the Circle of Honor, followed by a buffet lunch. Our luncheons are open to members who may also register one male guest, and to non-member males who are considering joining the club.
The Club expects all attendees to be fully vaccinated from COVID 19.
To register for the meeting, click on the register box below. The Club has a capacity of 100 for lunch. Once registrations have reached that limit, a waiting list will be maintained.
Cost to attend the golf club luncheon is $17 which can be paid by credit card when registering (click “Pay online”), or by clicking on “Invoice me” and sending a check to MNC PO Box 16291, Fernandina Beach, FL 32035 to arrive by May 14. Given the 100-person limit for in-person attendance, members’ registrations not paid by then will be cancelled to make room for waitlisted members.
