Our December Holiday tour will take us inside the historic St. Peter’s Church in Fernandina Beach. The building was designed by Fernandina architect Robert Schuyler and constructed between 1881-1884, but severely damaged by a fire a few years later. Schuyler, also the architect for the Fairbanks House and the Amelia Schoolhouse, amongst other downtown properties, supervised the rebuilding and expansion before the turn of the century. The structure is nicknamed “The Jewel of Centre Street.” We will learn about the history of the parish property, see the exquisite woodwork of the sanctuary, the recently restored stained-glass windows, and hear the historic rare pipe organ.
We will meet in the courtyard on the north side of the Church at 10:00 AM on Tuesday the 3rd.
There is no cost for this tour.
