Take Stock in Children program director,
guest speaker at the March 20 MNC Luncheon
Jacque Banks
Jacque Banks, program director for Take Stock in Children, will be guest speaker at the Men’s Newcomers Club luncheon Thursday, March 20, 11:30 a.m., at the Fernandina Beach Golf Club on Bill Melton Road.
Ms. Banks has a focus in the area of special education with 20 years as a special education administrator and almost 30 years in education. Her areas of expertise include autism, behavioral needs, and reading instruction.
She grew up not far from Kansas City, Missouri, where she entered the field of education. She established the first ever program in her school district for children ages 3-5- years-old with disabilities. She was one of twelve educators from the state selected to be part of a special grant funded program at the University of Missouri, where she received a master’s degree in education. While a graduate student in that program, Jacque led the local public school district in the development of new methods for identifying and providing services to young children with disabilities, as well as teaching courses for her fellow students. She also traveled across the state, facilitating training for daycares, preschools, and other school districts.
She was selected as the Outstanding Educator of the Year by Phi Delta Kappa, a local Education Honor Society, as well as the Outstanding New Special Education Administrator for Missouri. Most recently, she was a member of a nonprofit organization providing supported employment for adults with disabilities. She also volunteers at Barnabas and with the Parent-Teacher Organization at Emma Love Hardee Elementary School.
Take Stock in Children provides underserved youth with a caring volunteer adult mentor and role model focused on the development of life skills and academic success. The organization engages middle and high school students with college and career-focused professional coaching and support services. It provides scholars with postsecondary transition services and degree attainment coaching for success in college, career and life.
