President's Message
Peter Hill
A big thank you to our former president, Bob Duffy, and the MNC board, for leading us through a solid year of fellowship and fun in 2024-2025. I am grateful for their nominating me to lead us into 2025-2026.
Last year I was reluctant to accept the position of MNC vice president as I had not been affiliated with the club very long. However, “newcomers” is the operative word, right?! I quickly warmed to the idea, and by the end I was very pleased with the varied and inspiring guests recruited to speak to our Club. Now, as president, I hope to reinvigorate our outreach campaign to bring more fresh faces into the Club.
Also, there is a wealth of talent in that room when we meet, and I want to tap that resource at each meeting by soliciting their ideas for potential new speakers, tours and activities.
So, who are we, what do we do, how, and when do we do it? The MNC is an independent club and is not affiliated with any other newcomers’ organization. There is an informal relationship with the Newcomers Club of Amelia Island, a local women’s organization. Our Club meets the third Thursday each month from September through May for a catered lunch at Fernandina Beach Golf Course with speakers who provide presentations on various topics and volunteer opportunities. We also have a number of Club committees (tours, special events, etc.) and special interest groups (golf, bridge, and finance among others), all run by volunteers. Should you wish to join the Club, please navigate to the Join Us page in the blue ribbon above and submit your application along with a nominal, annual membership fee.
I’ll be counting on all of you to support me as we head into another year of comradery and curiosity about the unique wonders of Amelia Island and Northeast Florida. We are truly blessed and privileged to be here. Our mission will be to get the message out to Newcomers, Old Timers and all men who seek enrichment in their lives and those around them.
Best Regards, Peter
